Derek Lavoie, Psy.D.

Staff Psychologist

My name is Derek Lavoie and I am a licensed psychologist in New Hampshire as well as PSYPACT certified (to practice telepsychology in certain states). I am conducting psychological and neuropsychological assessment. I completed a doctorate in psychology (PsyD) at Rivier University. My assessment experiences include inpatient settings, partial hospitalization programs, residential substance use, community mental health, mental health court, forensic settings, and outpatient settings. I have testified as an expert witness related to assessment. My training also included extensive therapy experience. While I am currently exclusively practicing assessment, my therapeutic experiences have allowed to me tailor recommendations including identifying ideal therapeutic approaches and practices.

My approach to assessment is to collect data that is accurate, reliable, and valid. The tools I use are heavily informed by empirical research. My goal is to determine a diagnosis by having multiple sources pointing to the same conclusion, ensuring this accuracy. A typical assessment will begin with a clinical interview where I will collect background information, clarify all of your goals, and ask about your experiences of symptoms or impairments. A broad symptom measure will then be given, which will be used to determine more specific measures. If indicated, cognitive and neuropsychological measures will also be administered. After initial testing is completed, the scores will be interpreted and follow-up testing is completed if necessary. The final step includes a feedback session, where the results of the measures will be reviewed and you will be given a formal report, as well as have the opportunity to ask further questions. I am happy to continue answering questions after this feedback session by phone or email. I am conducting assessments for adults and adolescents for a wide variety of referral questions.
